This weeks show starts out with a double play of Tarrus Riley, and some music from Culture, Michael Rose, and Bob Marley. From there on Sounds of the Caribbean celebrates the upcoming birthday of Dennis Emmanuel Brown who was born in Kingston on February 1st 1957, with nothing but music from The Crown Prince of Reggae. You will hear Dennis Brown’s hits like Money In My Pocket, Here I Come, Revolution, Silhouettes, Love Has Found It’s Way, and Stop The Fussing and Fighting. We also play Songs from Dennis Brown that are often less touched on like Stage Coach, The Spirit, Can’t Take Another Day, My Whole World Is Empty Without You, Malcom X, and Bad Love Affair.

This weeks Dub Zone features extended mixes of Dennis Brown tunes like Hooligan, Tribulation with Niney The Observer, Praise Without Raise, Emmanuel God Is With Us, The Half, Promised Land with Aswad, and No More Will I Roam with Cutty Ranks.

On This weeks Sounds of the Caribbean Keith Rowe takes you on a walk down memory lane with his tribute to the great reggae musician Lynn Taitt. Lynn Taitt (6/22/34-1/20/10) passed away this past week in Montreal Canada. Lynn Taitt was an arranger, pannist, and guitarist and wrote his own music. Taitt also played Piano and keyboard. Taitt himself had very few recordings but his works with other musicians estimated to be near a thousand will live on forever. This week you will hear classic tunes from the great Rock steady era from the likes of Hopeton Lewis, The Tennors, Stranger Cole, The Heptones, Bob Marley, Rudy Mills, Johnny Nash, The Paragos, The Skatalites, Ken Boothe, and Roy Shirley. Lynn Taitt also played on all of Keith’s Keith & Tex classics and of course they are featured as well, along with Keith telling of what it was like back in the day to be recording with an artist like Lynn Taitt.

This weeks Dub Zone which steps away from the Lynn Taitt tribute features dubs from Pablo Gad, UB40, Ini Kamoze, and Dub Syndicate. You will also hear extended mixes from Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy, and Anthony Red Rose.

This weeks Sounds of the Caribbean kicks off with a Judy Mowatt classic and carries on with a Roots & Culture set of music from artists such as Horace Andy, Bingy Bunny and the Morwells, Michael Rose, Johnny Clarke, Jah Stitch, Jacob Miller, and Culture. New music this week includes tunes from Jah Cure, Alborosie with David Hinds, Sizzla and a new riddim on the 5th element label entitled the Revolution Riddim which features music from George Nooks, Natural Black, and Turbulence. Other Riddims this week include the Unchained Riddim and a reworked modern day version of the classic Boops Riddim which features music from Tarrus Riley and Lutan Fyah. Also this week we celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday with several excerpts of his famous speeches laid over top of some dub rhythms.

This weeks Dub Zone is dedicated to the music of Vivian Jackson aka Yabby You (1946-2010) who passed away earlier this week in Jamaica. Music in the Yabby You tribute includes works from King Tubby, The Upsetters, Tommy McCook, Michael Prophet, Wayne Wade, Tappa Zukie, Dillinger, Trinity, Errol Alphonso, Tony Tuff, and of course Yabby’s own works with the Prophets and music he did under his real name Vivian Jackson.

We start off this weeks Sounds of the Caribbean with the king of Reggae music, Bob Marley and carry on with a very lively roots and culture set of music from the likes of Don Carlos, Cornell Campbell, The Heptones, Peter Tosh, Culture, Barrington Levy, Black Uhuru, and Earl Sixteen. Dennis Brown kicks off a lovers rock set that also features tunes from Slim Smith, Cornel Campbell, Kofi, and The Viceroys. This week you will hear new music from Pressure, Bunny Wailer, Anthony B, Sizzla, Voicemail, and Busy Signal. This weeks riddim rides include The Get Over Riddim, The DST Riddim and The Prosper Riddim from the Lustre Kings label which features music from Khari Kill, Chrisinti, and Lutan Fyah. We also ride the Tonight Riddim which has music from Michael Rose, David Hinds, and The Silvertones.

This weeks Dub Zone has dubs from The Twinkle Brothers, Pablo Moses, The Vibronics, and Kenny Knots, and Johnny Clarke. You will also hear extended mixes from Linton Kwesi Johnson, Cornel Campbell and Michael Prophet on the Sip A Cup label, Linval Thompson, and Errol Bellot and The Camp Street Rockers.

Mafia & Fluxy’s Zion Riddim is featured with songs by Capelton, Tony Rebel, and Turbulence. You will also hear songs on the The Ministerio Del Dub Riddim and The General Key Riddim featuring the likes of Junior Kelly, Tippa Irie, and Queen Ifrica. You will hear roots classics from Johnny Clarke, Dennis Brown, Earl Sixteen, and Black Uhuru. Queen Ifrica and Keith discuss the background of the hit songs from her latest cd entitled Montego Bay on VP records.
